I lay there
under the two coconut trees
the leaves blocking my eyes from the sun
the blue sky peering through the leaves
it's quiet.
the breeze gently rustles the leaves
the trees sways gracefully
spots of sunlight dance
the hummingbirds flutter about
darting from hibiscus to xoras
it's peaceful.
imagine that just over 500 years ago,
in the year fourteen ninety two
some amerindians were probably enjoying this day
like I did
just laying there
without a care in the world
when all of a sudden
screams and shouts pierced the air
three silhouettes broke the horizon
they were slowly apporaching
and eery chill covered the island
their destruction was nigh.
Note: Historical poem of mine. 1492 was the year in which Columbus re-discovered the island of Trinidad.
